The idea of going for a run first thing in the morning, particularly on your day off seems like a chore, but hearing the tragic story of Newham Leisure Centre worker Sarah Hammond who unfortunately lost her life in a tragic accident pushed us to get up on a crisp Sunday morning and run in memory of her life.
Sarah Hammond was heavily involved with running and athletics and was a founding member of ‘East End Road Runners’. She sadly died in August 1997, aged 24.
Every year her friends and family organise a Fun Run that is available to all ages, all abilities for a 5K run around Newham. Since three of us reside in East London, it only felt right to partake. It was also a great opportunity to continue training for our first ‘fourfits’ run in May for We Own The Night.
Here are a couple of shots that we took on the day.
What a great way to spend my Sunday morning.
